The Low-Intermediate English as a Second Language Certificate of Competency provides students with a foundation in the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills necessary for success in credit ESL courses at the intermediate level. Students completing this program will be able to participate in conversations at a low-intermediate level, write simple and compound sentences and paragraphs about familiar topics, pronounce common words and phrases, and read and understand main ideas and details in short academic texts. The goal of this two-course program is to prepare students with the academic and language skills necessary to succeed in everyday situations in their personal, professional, and academic lives.

 Demonstrate the reading, vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening, pronunciation, and speaking skills necessary to succeed in the ESL intermediate level courses.
